Hanamaru Youchien はなまる幼稚園

Cute overload perhaps.

It is a rather fun show to watch if you can get over the massive amount of cuteness. Anzu’s eccentric ways will crack you up in no time, however some of the ideas will borderlines pedophilia(stay away you lolicon!).  Thank god for late night anime… Story is about a male kinder teacher Tsuchida meets this Anzu who want to be his wife and takes on the role of his girlfriend at school, but Tsuchida is attracted to the other teacher Yamamoto and the interaction between the staff and students in the kindergarten.

Enjoyable character progression and comedy from this show, but it is not something that will leave a strong impression after you watched it. In 2 weeks you might forget 60% of the plot and only remember Anzu from the character list.

To sum the show up: cute kids being cute in cute art style. Moe moe power~

Nodame Cantabile~交響情人夢

Now that all of Nodame Cantabile’s chapters had ended, we can finally move on and watch other pure love story.

Noda Megumi and Shinich Chiaki are the main character in the story, both being students from music academy have magically attracted to each other through music. Shinich is portrait as a prodigy and have everything from looks to cutlery skills, On the other hand Nodame is clumsy, dirty, otaku and perverted in her own way sets a very strong contrast on both main protagonists. The story is about finding love through music and overcome obstacles to grow up and find their way into professional musician. First series is more focused on character development as well as the musical environment in Japan, later on in series two and finale is set in Paris where they hope to attain professional debut.

First season is very pleasant and cheerful, there wasn’t as much reality check in season one as in season two and finale. The story gets more complicated and life-like towards the end when characters have to make important decisions (seaon two and three). Season two introduces the Paris life which fascinate most of people, to be able to learn music in Europe is a Dream in most cases, so the main characters starts to face music head on and being serious about it. Season three is wrapping it all up, about their relationship and career as well as a touch up on the supporting characters throughout the series. The good thing about the series is it is not too music-savy, so no matter how much you know about music, you will end up enjoying the story anyways.

Nodame Cantabile is a very enjoyable piece with great fun and well paced drama. The animation for musical instrument and finger movements across the piano keyboard are phenomenal. Brilliant music and voice acting makes you feel attached to the characters very much, when they go through sadness or joy you feel like you are part of it. Overall a wonderful saga for music lover and an unique piece of work in shojo genre.

K-ON(OVA) and S2 confirmed!

What? S2? When??

I have just watched K-ON’s OVA and it was fuwa fuwa time. Technically this is episode 14, a lot of fun watching it. The K-ON club took their performance to a live house plus the learning curve to be in a live show with other bands. Oddly the band name is called”Afterschool Tea time’. Kawaii desu ne~ However there was no details on how they came up with that mellow name in the episode.

Also K-On Season 2 is confirmed after the “Let’s Go!” live concert in Yokohama. Woot!!!! I am so happy! more details available on ANN. (click on the image above)

Setokai no Ichizon 生徒会の一存

The series, which is also called Hekiyō Gakuen Seito-kaigi Jiroku (The Records of the Hekiyō Academy Student Council’s Activities), is somewhat a weird slice of life anime looking at a student council consist members that is voted by popularity. Now the student council is made up from 5 student, 1 male and 4 female (Harem flag ftw). Ken Sugisaki is the male lead that enter the council with the blue seat (being No.1 at studying), and vowed to make this sacred meeting room into his personal Harem, which of course all female character despise him of having such thoughts.

The show contains a lot of gags based on parody of other anime super titles, as well as very otaku-ish ways to present the characters. The story revolve base on their everyday conversation in the meeting room and their character development. You have the ultimate lineup from moe president that always want to accomplish something, a pair of sister who have totally opposite character and a mystery beauty that can have anything her “ways”.

Overall a rather enjoyable parody if you understand the gags and fan services are there too. It is one of those Lucky star/Galaxy Angel type which does not have a progressive storyline. ED is pretty cute and funny too, So if you are after a parody with plenty of Otaku references, Setokai is definitely worth your time.

Spice and Wolf-狼と香辛料

Tribute to our Goddess with fur- Horo.(or Holo)

Set in Medieval where trading and merchants are the primary source for moving goods and passing on stories. Some people calls this show Economics 101 but I don’t think the business part  is highly complicated. An unusual piece that script around traveling and trading which is a breath of fresh air from the usual mainstream anime.

Horo is a pagan Wolf god that watches over fields for crop and *supposedly* very old. Pasroe was the town Horo promised to watch over and have good harvest year after year, However as time goes by people start to forsake this once might God that guards the town. She refer herself as the “”Wise Wolf of Yoitsu” and gained the notion of wanting to go back to her homeland, but she longed for some company and loneliness has made her fragile.

Lawrence the protagonist of the story come across Horo and made a promise to take her back to her homeland-Yoitsi. In return for his company Horo lend Lawrence her wisdom to benefit his trade and helps him when he is in big trouble. As story progress plus many hardship they overcome, they start to grow affection towards each other.(very slowly…) The story consist conflicts with churches due to Horo being a pagan existence, trading issues and sightseeing in fictional setting.  It does have action as well as some dark sides about humanity.

The story itself is rather interesting because it is not something you see everyday in mainstream genre. But it does progress slowly in a way, however the interaction between the two main character makes up for the story, you will find the conversations between the two somewhat addictive and begging for more. Horo is nonetheless quite a fitting description of “tsundere” and Lawrence is your clichéd “kind” guy who goes out of his way to “care” for Horo.

Overall it’s a lovely anime with very little competition of it’s kind. Good for mature audience who is tired of bouncing tits, panties shots or never-ending Shonen crap.  Spice and Wolf have great art and high animation quality plus decent music in OP and ED set this show apart from other “nekomimi” or “goddess” type of anime. Personally I love the ED of both season and season, it has a children picture book feel to it.
